A senior AI engineer who's shipped it before.

Most teams don't need another person who can call an API. They need someone who has watched an AI feature fail in front of real users and knows how to stop it happening again. I design, build and run AI systems in production: voice agents that interview job candidates, agents that answer calls and book appointments for businesses, and assistants inside products people pay for.

Senior AI engineer

Sounds like you if

  • There's an AI feature on the roadmap and nobody on the team has shipped one
  • You've hired before and got someone who could prototype but not ship
  • You need senior help in weeks, not after a six-month hiring process
  • Your AI work needs one person to own it end to end

Tools on the bench

  • Python
  • FastAPI
  • LLM APIs
  • RAG
  • AI agents
  • Voice AI
  • Computer vision
  • MLOps
  • PostgreSQL
  • AWS
  • Azure

How I’d handle it

The job, step by step.

  1. 01

    Scope it

A short call, then a written plan: what to build, what to buy, what to skip, and what it will cost to run every month once it's live.

  2. 02

    Build it

I write the code, in your repo, with your team. Python and FastAPI on the backend, retrieval and agents where they're the right tool, plain code where they aren't.

  3. 03

    Hand it over

Evals, monitoring and documentation, so it keeps working after I've gone and your team can change it without fear.

What you walk away with.

  1. 01AI features designed, built and deployed, not just prototyped
  2. 02Retrieval augmented generation over your own documents and data
  3. 03AI agents and voice agents wired into your existing systems and APIs
  4. 04Evaluation and monitoring, so quality is measured instead of hoped for
  5. 05Code your own engineers can read and maintain

Shipped, not just pitched.

Products of mine where the same work is running for real users.

Questions people ask first.

Are you available for contract work?

Yes. Alongside my own products I take on a small number of client engagements at a time. The contact form is the quickest way to find out whether I can start when you need me.

Do I hire you directly or through an agency?

Directly, for most engineering work. Bigger AI builds that need more hands run through ReachWise, my agency, with me still leading the engineering.

What's your background?

A software engineering degree from PUCIT in Lahore and an MSc in Computing from the University of Northampton. I started in computer vision, then moved into backend architecture and LLM systems. Today I'm co-founder and CEO of Placewise AI, and I still write its code.

Can you help us hire our own AI engineers?

Yes. I can help write the role, set a practical take-home task and sit in on interviews. It's part of the fractional CTO work too.

Where are you based?

Northampton, UK. I work remotely with teams anywhere in the world.
